Today we plan to travel out to Pema, to buy clogs and check out their vast selection of everything you never needed. Josse calls these Everything and Nothing stores.
Then to Malmö, to search for the Talking Lamp.
Followed by fika at Håkan and Eva's home.
Lastly, a race back to Åhus, where I plan to wow them with my famous chili recipe.
Julie got some shots on the way.
And here it is.
A little taste of the silliness inside.
We spent a lot of time looking at everything, and for the restroom.
With an armload of clogs and empty bladders, we made our way to Malmö.
Josse wanted to take us to see the Twisting Torso, an engineering marvel.
On the way, we passed the World Trade Center, a bit smaller than I remember.
It's a very tall building,
depending on where you stand, it can look bent,
or even like it's moving or twisting.
Looking up, as clouds pass by, it can give you a little vertigo.
We took a walk along the shore.
Check it out, a solar and wind powered electric car charger / carport.
In the distance is the bridge to Copenhagen.
Whenever the sun pops out, Swedes turn to face it.
Josefine shows Jullyana how to be Swedish.
Lunch time
Back to the car, to go to the square in old town.
Jullyana and I can't keep our traps shut.
Around the corner, in the little square, there it is.
A giant table lamp.
it wasn't saying anything though.
How is it lit up? It's unplugged.
Walking around in the old square is wonderful.
There is art everywhere.
We checked out a pharmacy that opened in 1511.
This place reminds me of Paris.
A mixture of old and new.
Jullyana got her blueberry shake.
Ah, chili.
We had a bit of confusion with the ingredients. I needed cumin, Josse went to the store and got some kummin. Made sense, many Swedish words are spelled a little differently, but sound the same. I opened the package, and found caraway seed. Good for rye bread, terrible for chili. Now we had to find out what cumin was, in Swedish. Google Translate had it wrong. So, we dug a bit deeper, into the spice cupboard, smelling everything that looked remotely similar. Finally finding spiskummin, hooray!
Josse made jalapeno-cheddar cornbread, her favorite, and Louisiana wedding cake, my favorite cornbread.
We had a great time, and everybody loved it. Also, Josefine found out why it didn't taste quite right, when she tried it after she got home from the US.
