Arctic Expedition 1

So, I'm sitting in bed, in the hostel, as I write this, with Julie gently snoring beside me.
What a huge day it's been, and it's only 1:30 pm. I will have to add pics later, as we haven't found the cable that goes from the computer to the camera
Our flight to Reykjavik was on a smaller plane than I had hoped. The seats didn't go all the way back, so sleep was a hard won commodity. Still, we were treated very well, and turned the flight into a little party.
We tried Icelandic schnapps, very much like the Akvavit (aquavit) of Sweden. Except, it was flavored with birch, instead of caraway.

After dinner, we were watching movies and relaxing. Suddenly Julie started shaking me, and pointing excitedly out the window. I couldn't see what she was talking about, so we switched seats. There it was, a glowing pale green cloud, with soft yellow stripes. It was many miles long, and moved very little. Unsure if this was really the Northern Lights we came to see, Julie asked the flight attendant. She, in turn, asked the pilot. Who turned off the lights in the cockpit for a good look. Yes, this was it! We hadn't even reached our destination, and there it was. Amazing!
Our first impression of Reykjavik was, Sacramento, socked in by a blizzard.

The Hostel is very nice. Super industrial look, but well made, and comfortable.

Tired from jet lag, we decided to go to the pools, and have a soak.
On the way there we stopped at a hot dog stand. Iceland is proud of there hot dogs, the are made from lamb, and delicious. They are called pylsur, and the stand is Pylsuvagninn Laugardal, if you're in the neighborhood. Order with everything, fried onions, raw onions, mustard, ketchup, and remoulade.

Unfortunately, no cameras are allowed in the complex, so no pictures of me in my banana hammock, sorry. Such a nice experience.
Warm and clean, it's now time for a nap.
